God, this is wonderful. "Sleep on the couch, asshole" made me literally laugh out loud. Thank you for this--and happy birthday, Kim.

John Whitford

Happy Birthday to you.
Thanks for the memories.

Happy Birthday to you Kim. Thanks for keeping the tradition going.

Kim, this reminded me of the Oscar Wilde quotes, "Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only Beauty.”

And of course, "To me, Beauty is the wonder of wonders...It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances.”

So beautifully said.

In the 1970s I was at Susan Strasberg's house a few times. It was an odd feeling to see Marilyn throughout the house in framed photos as someone's friend, rather than as a poster on the wall. Later, I met a fellow who was her voice coach on Let's Make Love. He said she was worried about singing, so he suggested she simply speak the words to the songs. I loved that he said she was lovely and sweet, no tales of attempted seduction or neurotic behavior. And after reading a book by Anthony Summers (?) I tend to agree with your 7th grade speech.

Happy birthday Marilyn, and to you Kim.
