Great list. The Wrestler is my favorite of the year too, and your description is wonderful: everything from "But then every moment in Aronofsky's raggedly beautiful..." is the most emotionally resonant piece on this film that I've read.

I'm also glad to hear I'm not alone in loving Benjamin Button despite its cheesy Gump factor. For me, the film was a tug-of-war between Eric Roth's banal script and Fincher's extraordinarily beautiful vision. Fincher won out in the end, and the movie absolutely works, but some cynics are too hung up on the corny dialogue to see what's really there at the heart of the film.

I just started reading your stuff and I've been enjoying it. I especially like this piece. I loved the movie In Bruges. When I hear people tell me they've never heard of it I immediately chastise them. I haven't Benjamin Button or The Wrestler or Slumdog Millionaire yet, but I think I'm going to do that this weekend. Excellent list, and excellent page.

Damn great and I'm glad it's you who has been chosen to defent Danny McBride against the haters this holiday season. He deserves the best.

Its a great list of movies, I am very glad to see "Slumdog Millionaire" movie also included in the list.

I totally agree. I never gave up on Mickey Rourke ever, either. Thank you for your fantastic blog and point of view.
