Good list - and let us not forget the Sids (Barrett and Viscious)...sadly, this is a list that could go for pages.

And, yeah, Eddie Cochran did so much in such a short amount of time. Who knows what would've been. his fame came at a very pivotal point in music history. I think he would've fared better than Elvis, due to his studio mastery and musical virtuosity...

Dennis Wilson really was the most useless of the Beach Boys though, in my opinion. A tragic (and ironic) loss as it was, it was much sadder to me when Carl Wilson died. I guess Carl's voice shined more to me than Dennis's lackluster drumming. Nice to see some Beach Boys respect though.

Good list and glad to see Johnny Ace near the top. I think I would add Frankie Lymon as well though. His was a sad life - rocket stardom and crashing decline.

great list..
Curtis Mayfield and "Move On Up"..nuff said

What? No Kurdt Kobain? I don't understand...

Dennis Wilson picked up a friend (female) of mine in a bar many years ago.

You wouldn't want him for a boyfriend.

Birdy

No Brian Jones? He could pick up a hubcap and play it perfectly in under an hour.To bad he was so paranoid though...

Tony

Thanks for the memmories.!!

Luther

Robert Johnson.

If you watch Eddie Cochran and listen to him, you can tell where Elvis got his act. Sometimes when I close my eyes and listen to EC I can swear I hear EP.

Thank you, Kim. This list was very moving. The most tragic losses are those that didn't get the chance to have their obvious talent realized before the end. The prime example for me is Alexander "Skip" Spence of Moby Grape. His songs were the best ones the Grape ever cut, but an unstable personality combined with some bad acid led to him attacking his band-mates with an axe and spending some time committed.

Upon his release he recorded a solo album, "Oar", and there is nothing like it on this earth. It reads a last testament, since he practically vanished into the mists after its release. RIP Skip, you've inspired the hell out of me.
