I had no idea what to expect from this film. After watching it several times and liking it more with each viewing I have to say that it is now firmly implanted in my top ten all-time favorite movies list. I do think that this is the best car film of all time. It's an enigmatic gem. I am so glad that I accidently discovered it after all these years.

Before Two-Lane Blacktop was released, Esquire magazine did a cover story about the film and proclaimed it the best movie - ever. After seeing it upon release and then on DVD, I still marvel at the magazine's declaration.

T-L B had a cool factor generally not seen in major releases yet it was part of the indie spirit continuum of that time. As I recall follow-up reviews really chewed on the Taylor-Wilson lack of film experience. Hey, to me, they came off as the real life dudes who kept their heads down and lived down the street.

Car movie? Only if cars are metaphors for the surreal and existential. I half expected to see a copy of On the Road fall out of someone’s jacket.
